Art Journaling – Getting Unstuck, Again

During this July 4th weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my friend’s wedding shower. We wanted to celebrate together before her elopement. While I was there, I ran into an old friend. He was figuring some things out in life and was hoping to start a Youtube channel. Immediately, I knew he’d be great. He had the rawness, the personality and the drive. I told him to just go for it but like every beginner, he wanted the nice camera, the nice background, blah blah blah. Inwardly, I laughed and shook my head because I’d felt the same way when I posted my first art journal (see video above). Most of us don’t realize how good we are in the beginning. And we’re good, not because the world’s standards say so but because we’re not competing with everyone else’s more polished efforts. We’re good because there’s still an element of self distrust. We’re good because we still find it necessary to ask God every five seconds if we’re on the right track.

Later on, as I reflected on the conversation, I realized that there were lessons in there for me too (per usual).

Here’s to letting go of what we think it should be/look/feel like. Here’s to ignoring all those lying voices in our mind. Here’s to getting unstuck, again.
